Rob Wilmot

Rob Wilmot is a graduate of the University of Georgia and obtained his law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law in 1982. From 1982 to 1986, Rob was a prosecuting attorney for the Tifton Judicial Circuit trying over 100 felony cases with over a 99% conviction rate. In 1986, Rob entered private practice and joined the law firm of Reinhardt & Whitley (later known as Reinhardt, Whitley, Wilmot, Summerlin & Pittman) where he concentrated on civil litigation including road wreck cases, medical malpractice and commercial litigation. In 2007, Rob joined the firm of McCall, Phillips & Williams, LLC (later known as McCall, Williams, Wilmot & Powell). During the time spent at the McCall firm, Rob’s practice continued to focus on heavy trucking defense, medical malpractice defense, health care law and commercial litigation.

In addition to defending medical malpractice claims against hospitals and doctors, Rob has represented health care facilities in claims brought under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), responded to claims brought by the Office of Civil Rights, the preparation of root cause analysis after a sentinel event and the development of corrective action plans. Rob has assisted office based physicians in the development and implementation of compliance plans, negotiation of physician employment contracts, responses to inquiries by the Georgia Department of Human Resources as well as responding and appearing before the Composite State Board of Medical Examiners. Rob has been a presenter before the Georgia Association of Hospital Risk Management, Georgia Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, Georgia Association for Healthcare Providers; Georgia Hospital Association and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. To better assist his clients in preventing claims, Rob provides in-service education to hospitals on topics ranging from medical documentation, HCQIA, EMTALA and involuntary commitment (1013s).

Over his thirty years of legal experience practicing in Tifton, Rob’s expertise touches most every area of law. While Rob’s main area of focus is as described above, Rob accepts cases in most all matters including criminal defense, domestic relations, commercial transactions, local goverment, and litigation. Rob has been rated as an AV attorney with the national legal rating firm of Martindale-Hubbell* and is considered one of the preeminent attorneys in the area by his peers.

Ralph Powell

In 1990, Ralph began his practice of law in Athens, Georgia where he practiced for over 15 years. For ten of those years Ralph served as a prosecuting attorney with the county. During his time as a prosecutor, Ralph was selected to become a faculty member of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Counsel focusing on training and instructing young prosecutors throughout the State of Georgia.

While in Athens Ralph also worked at the University Of Georgia School Of Law as coordinator of the University’s Mock Trial Program and served as an Adjunct Faculty member instructing law students on Complex Litigation. During his tenure and under his tutelage the Law School recorded its first ever national mock trial championship. In 2000, Ralph was honored to be selected by the Governor of the State of Georgia to serve as Solicitor General of Clarke County. As the elected Solicitor General, Ralph was in charge of prosecuting criminal cases within the State and Municipal Courts of Athens-Clarke County. While serving as Solicitor General, Ralph was involved in numerous community organizations and committees including the Rotary Club, Domestic Violence Task Force, Hospitality Resource Panel and the Child Fatality Review Panel.

In 2005, Ralph resigned his commission as Solicitor General, moved with his family to live on their farm in Worth County and practiced law with the firm, McCall Williams & Phillips (later changed to McCall Williams Wilmot & Powell). As a partner with this firm, Ralph focused his practice on representing businesses and individuals in the areas of health care law with an emphasis on nursing home litigation, heavy trucking/automobile accidents, municipal liability and labor and employment law. Prior to the formation of Wilmot & Powell, Ralph also worked as General Counsel and Chief of Operations for a company that managed nursing homes in the Southwest Georgia Region. In that capacity Ralph advised the company in matters which included corporate compliance, employment matters, risk management and regulatory law.

Ralph has practiced for over twenty years, is well respected for his trial skills, professionalism, and ethics and has experience in a number of areas of law. Ralph accepts cases in most all matters including civil litigation, employment law, domestic relations and criminal defense including DUI.

Elizabeth Torres

Elizabeth was raised in Tifton, Georgia and obtained her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Georgia, where she graduated as a first honor graduate. Elizabeth obtained her law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2020. In law school, Elizabeth was a Richard B. Russell Distinguished Law Fellow and a member of the Georgia Law Review. She was also inducted into the Order of the Coif. Prior to joining Wilmot & Powell, Elizabeth worked at an AmLaw 200 firm, where she gained experience representing clients in a wide variety of complex litigation and arbitration matters, including business torts, product liability cases and general commercial disputes.
